Sustainability & ESG

Sustainability & responsibility

The GPO name and concept reflect a real commitment: shifting cargo volumes from roads and rails to water — fewer emissions, lower costs.

A seagoing vessel replaces dozens of tank trucks. Moving a 5,000-tonne bitumen volume from Thessaloniki to Constanta takes 5 days by sea versus 58 days with a truck fleet — and costs ~28% less. Fewer emissions, fewer trips, fewer road risks.

Four ESG pillars

How our commitment translates into concrete project decisions.

Reduced emissions

Maritime transport emits far less CO₂ per tonne/kilometre than road transport. Every tonne moved by water instead of road directly reduces the end client’s carbon footprint.

“Green” role products

Biodiesel reduces dependence on fossil fuels in transport. Liquid fertilizers reduce soil losses and enable more efficient agriculture with the same resource consumption.

Minimal technological losses

Fully segregated facilities, short routes and SCADA automation — product waste and cross-contamination are virtually eliminated.

EU compliance

The project aligns with EU priority axes in transport and ESG objectives, being eligible for non-reimbursable funding.

Sustainability is not a slogan — it is a project decision.
